Kayla Remington

This is Kayla Remington.  She is sitting quietly on the train a few seats ahead of me.  She looks about my age, maybe a little older.  Kayla is holding a small child on her lap.  Her baby girl is crying and fussing, while Kayla does nothing about it.  Kayla seems to be extremely tired and worn out, ready to get home from a long day of work.  She wears black pants, black sneakers, and a red shirt from her job.  Her hair is in a loose ponytail.  Kayla works almost everyday trying to save up money so she can get her own apartment and move out of her mom's house.  She doesn't living there because they always get into arguments, but it is the only place to live for now.  Kayla originally wanted to go to college right out of high school, but her senior year she had a baby and her plans changed.  The father has no part of either of their lives, so the only income is her own.  While Kayla sits on the train she thinks about her old friends who are in college.  They don't have to worry about raising a child.  She secretly wishes she could be them, but looks down at her daughter and realizes she would be nothing without her.  Someday she wants to go to college, but she knows that for now she has other priorities to worry about.
