I Believe in Laughter

I believe in laughter.  A joke can be the difference between a person liking or hating you.  Let's say you're on a date and you make an awkward joke about sex or her mother or whatever too soon, she probably won't ever call you again.  If you tell a joke and she laughs, then she's going to tell her friends "he was so funny." This is a good thing, you want this. Laughter is a single thing two or more consenting adults can mutually enjoy without the exchange of fluids, just ideas.  It's sort of like mental intercourse.   How many people do we have "inside jokes" with?  Almost every situation we are in.  Jokes that aren't even really funny anymore, but they evoke a feeling, a memory that for some reason still triggers a chuckle.
Someone who is funny is generally liked, sometimes especially if his jokes are directed at others.  Even if you're the butt of the comedian's jokes, you will still laugh, most likely out of courtesy.  People don't like examining the things about themselves that could be potentially opened for ridicule, but if you can make them laugh at those things, then they're easier to swallow.  Even a horrible day story can be lightened and enjoyable to others if you add the comedy at the appropriate times.  Ken Kesey said, "Man, when you lose your laugh, you lose your footing." I believe that laughter is the best way out or into any situation.
